The Dawn Dish is a feather-light, carved platter suited to displaying favourite collections, holding tealights or serving a little sweet something.
The platter is formed by hand from a ball of speckled stoneware clay that has been wedged through with Red Iron Oxide, giving the finished platter a toasted appearance.
After building a rough form by hand, the Dawn Dish has been dried slowly until leatherhard and carved into, as thin as the clay will allow. Darting scores - that take inspiration from shooting stars viewed whilst firing the Anagama in Japan - have been carved into the surface. Once fired, white stoneware clay has been pressed into each score and the excess clay has been removed with a rib. This has left sharp, geometric lines in place which subtly glint through the creamy, white glaze.
It features a tiny hand painted circle using wild Pease Bay clay, that takes inspiration from shooting stars and the moon, viewed whilst firing the Anagama in Japan. The dish has been left unglazed to highlight the beauty of the clay body.
Care: gentle handwashing is recommended. The Dawn Dish is not suitable for dishwashers, microwaves or heating in the oven.
